We are proud to have on Impatto Rock Webzine the best pro rock guitarist of Pakistan: Faraz Anwar! Please read the interview and follow him! 1. Since you are at your first interview on this site, why don't you tell our readers when and how you started your journey in the underground world?
FA-My music journey started when I watched some rock & metal compilation on VHS when I was in 6th grade in that video I found yngwie malmsteen song" you don't remember" that video motivated me to pick up the guitar but before that I heard all these awesome prog rock bands like rush, pink Floyd, yes, Kansas etc..Besides that I also heard all 80s pop, rock and metal too. When I was very young my first western music exposure was the band Abba my father brought me few albums of Abba & I loved the classical pop style compositions by Abba & still like them.
2. What genres and bands is the group influenced by?
Rush, pink Floyd, yes, Kansas, Dream Theater, Symphony x, Survivor, journey, Johann Sebastian Bach etc...
3. I know it might not be easy to do, but could you comment on your latest work?
I like most of my music when I hear my music sometimes it feels like that I’m listening to some other artist I enjoy listening to myself I think I’m kind of selfish HAHA. Last album "Tale Of The Lunatics" it’s one of my best work so far.
4. The underground metal scene is undoubtedly inflated by many groups, so (often) it is necessary to present compositions that stand out in the chaos of the various musical scenes. Do you think your songs have something more to say or different from what has already been said in the crowded metal world?
Yes now a days it’s hard to break through but in my opinion I always remember one thing which is kept me doing more & more music. When I first picked up the guitar was only for myself not for anyone else so music for me is a very personal thing first you have to satisfy yourself then people comes next so I do music for myself if some likes it I welcome them & also nobody knows the formula how to write a hit song, even though if you push yourself to write a hit song you will lost the artistic side of you.
5. What do you think of the national underground scene?
When I started my music career in the early 2000s there were lots of music TV channels in Pakistan music scene was growing & we thought that music would stay forever but our country political situation got worse & people diverted to news channels so basically it came like a fashion now it's gone. Now its social media Era & music lost its worth globally. In Pakistan government does not recognize music & art as a profession that's why we never had good infrastructure for music no labels no artist management companies no music schools, in our religion music is forbidden and now the music scene is worst than ever.
6. The career of a musical group (however short it may be) is always studded with more or less positive events. What would you like to erase and what will you always remember from your group experience, from the very beginning until now?
to tell you the truth I never had a good progressive musicians in my music career that’s why I play everything on the album by myself in Pakistan every show is nightmare here there are no live sound engineers so I always complain that’s why I stopped playing here I don’t remember if we ever had a good system in our show. what I wanted to erase is the time we are living in this internet age I don’t like it everything is worthless these days even music suffered a lot but everything has pros & cons , I think after the 90s global music scene is on decline I missed the days when we listen to the music on tapes.
7. How do you judge the Internet vehicle for promoting the music scene?
Internet in this manner is a good platform it gives every musician opportunity to release their music & promote it by them self on using social media & internet is good for the overall music scene as well.
8. Since we are talking about it .... How many original CDs do you buy each month? And how many do you listen to?
I used to buy a lots of cds & cassettes in the 80s & 90s but now physical music is not available in Pakistan .so I have spotify I listen music there .I usually hear 70s & 80s pop, rock ,metal etc...
9. What does your group want to do when they grow up?
I wanted to make more & more albums so when I leave this world people remember me who I was & I would like to do live shows tours etc...
10. Okay, guys! The space at our disposal is about to run out, but I want to give you carte blanche for the last message. The word is yours; you are free to express yourselves!
